Updates
The update check
Section titled “The update check”Each time ReliaEn starts, it checks https://updates.reliaen.com once a day for a newer version. To switch off the check, or to check now, use Help ▸ Updates….
The check reads one signed file from the update source. It sends no information about you, your computer, your licence or your data.
How an update installs
Section titled “How an update installs”- Download and install starts the installer. ReliaEn then restarts as the new version and opens the CMMS file that was open.
- ReliaEn checks the signature of every update before it installs.
- Before an update changes your CMMS file, ReliaEn backs up the file and tells you.
- An interrupted download resumes.
- If a new version does not start, ReliaEn returns to the previous version automatically.
- You can skip a version. The start-up notice does not show that version again, unless ReliaEn marks the update as critical.
- An update needs free space of three times the installer size on the download drive.
Updates and your licence
Section titled “Updates and your licence”ReliaEn installs every update with a build date inside your licence period. A new major version (2.0 and later) needs a licence file issued for that version. An annual renewal that is in force covers the new major version at no extra cost.
Computers without internet
Section titled “Computers without internet”Copy the update files to a folder that the computer can reach. Then use Help ▸ Updates ▸ Install from file…. ReliaEn checks the signature in the same way.
Settings for system administrators
Section titled “Settings for system administrators”A policy file can point every computer at a mirror inside your network, or switch off the update check. The policy file is %ProgramData%\ReliaEn\policy.json. Administrators can also install updates silently with the installer (see Install).
